A new biography is claiming that those close to Dr Dre tried to talk him out of one of the world?s most successful signing?s after discovering he was white.
In the unofficial new book "Dr. Dre: The Biography.", writer Ronin Ro the book claims that renowned producer Dre first heard of Eminem when he listened to a demo tape in Jimmy Iovine's garage. When he first heard original recordings of 'Bonnie and Clyde' and 'Murder Murder', Dre was convinced the rapper was black.
After impressing Dre with his music, the former NWA legend arranged to meet Eminem, who showed up wearing a yellow jogging suit, which Dre remarking, "I thought he was Tweety Bird."
The pair hit it off immidiately however and Dre?s prot?g? visited his home studio the very next day, where he came up with 'Role Model' and two other songs that that ended up on Eminem?s first Aftermath/Interscope album.
Back at his record label, Ro writes that "Dre auditioned the songs for black employees," with the response being that most asked Dre "What are you doing?" The label's general manager also tried to talk him out of the decision to sign Slim Shady, saying: "Look, this guy is blond with blue eyes. What are you doing?' "
But Dre went with his instinct because "he felt Eminem had talent." Looks like that instinct paid off.
A rep for Dr Dre hit back at claims made in the book, describing it as "an uninformed, speculative piece of nonsense."
