Zooey Deschanel Receives Apology After Boston Marathon Caption Gaffe

Zooey Deschanel has received an apology from a subtitling company after her name wrongly appeared on-screen in an unfortunate blunder during Fox’s Boston Marathon news coverage.

A screen-shot shows the broadcast following last week’s horror, along with the subtitle: “[…] marathon bombing. He is 19-year-old Zooey Deschanel”.

The name that should have appeared was Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was later arrested.

Caption Solutions, based in Kansas, have now issued a statement apologising to the New Girl actress for the blunder. According to the New York Daily News, company president Kala J Patterson says they “sincerely apologise for this error” and “deeply regret” it.

Deschanel had tweeted “Whoa! Epic closed captioning FAIL!” when she learned of the incident.

New Girl star Deschanel is currently wrapping up work on the second series of the popular comedy, and could soon cross paths with Taylor Swift on the set of the finale.

The ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ singer is reported to appear as a guest character called Elaine during a wedding sequence in the current season’s final episode.

The show, which also stars Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Lamorne Morris, was given an early pick-up for the 2013/4 season at the beginning of March.

Zooey’s film credits include (500) Days Of Summer, Yes Man, Failure To Launch and Surf’s Up. On the small screen she has lent her voice to The Simpsons and had a recurring guest role in Weeds.

In September 2009 she married Death Cab For Cutie singer Ben Gibbard, but the pair filed for divorce in December 2011 and sealed the deal one year later.
