Zoella pens her second book WITHOUT any ghostwriters
Zoella has confirmed that the sequel to 2014’s Girl Online is well underway, and that this time she’s going it alone. The YouTube sensation, whose Girl Online became the feistiest selling debut novel in UK history – and yes, that is including Harry Potter – has confirmed she is writing its sequel without the help of author Siobhan Curham.
The blogger came under fire when it emerged her co-author remained unacknowledged despite the book becoming one of the biggest success stories of the decade.
This time round, Zoella, real name Zoe Sugg, told her subscribers that Girl Online 2 is coming with just the help of her editor at Penguin, Amy Alward. Alward is also a novelist whose book The Potion Diaries is released later this year.
“Amy’s been coming to my house every week for the past four months… we essentially spend the day bashing heads and writing the book together,” Zoe explained.
“With Girl Online I also had an editorial consultant who helped me get everything down on the page and as it was my first novel it was all very daunting and very scary but I feel as though I’m learning as I go along so now it’s just me and Amy for book two.”
The 25-year-old called her book the “most fun thing I am doing right now. It’s so exciting, every week I am super excited.” Although we won’t see the teen idol at work because “it’s just us sat typing and that’s not very fun”.
She says she’s “decided on all the themes and storyline for the second book” as well as adding some new character.
As for the book’s title, we’ll have to wait but Girl Online 2 is pencilled in for a 2015 release date.
“I am currently typing up chapter 11 so that’s how far along we are. We do have quite a tight deadline though. I’m writing this up and then I’m going to send it to Amy,” explained Zoella, who was this week named the 34th sexiest women in the world, according to the readers of FHM.
“I was just saying to Amy I say ‘and’ way too much. That’s the blog post writer in me. And I keep putting exclamation marks like EVERYTHING IS SO EXCITING! But it’s all a learning curve, it’s all very exciting… we’re well on the way!”
Well on the way for another best seller at least: Girl Online has sold 343, 562 copies in the UK so far and counting.
