This dog driving a tractor brought the M74 to standstill, not kidding

So this is a turn out for the books. Basically we’ve learned don’t take the advice of those noughties one-hit wonders the Baha Men: Never let the dogs out. Well, at least not when you’ve got a tractor and a pooch desperate to get behind the wheel.

This morning, one nifty hound took it upon himself to run off with his owner’s actual tractor. The dog in the driver’s seat caused absolute mayhem on the M74 this morning and fellow motorists were not pleased.

Don the collie pounced into the mini tractor while unsuspecting farmer Tom Hamilton tended to a land in a field alongside the motorway. Remarkably, the dog then leaned on the controls of the tractor, which had been left standing with the brake off well out of sight of the field.

Driving out of a smashed field and straight into the central reservation around 8.30 – peak rush hour time – near Abington South Lanarkshire, in Scotland. Thankfully four and a half year-old dog trotted away from the scene totally unharmed, as did all the drivers who carefully managed to avoid the tractor. Police darted to the scene and managed to clear the motorway in half an hour and traffic on the M47 resumed as normal. 77-year-old farmer Tom told reporters: “I was out in the mini tractor and had stepped out of it to get a lamb which looked like it was about to get out of the gate. “I had not put the brake on the tractor and when I turned round I got a fright as the vehicle was careering down the hill, through a gate and onto the M74. Don was fine and did not bark during the incident.” A particularly baffled Traffic Scotland flooded Twitter with amusing updates:

Don the collie on Britain’s Got Talent? Don the collie the movie? The possibilities are endless…
