The Hunger Games Studio Set To Release New Power Rangers Movie
A new Power Rangers movie is in the works, with the studio behind the hugely successful Hunger Games movies on board to produce the project.
Lionsgate is partnering with Saban Brands (which produces the “Power Rangers” show) to create a brand new movie based on the popular heroes.
Plot details are yet to be confirmed and it’s also not clear whether the movie will be aimed purely at a younger audience, like the original 1995 film “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie,” or at an older generation of fans.
Haim Saban, head of Saban Brands hints in a statement announcing the news though that they’re hoping Lionsgate will have the power to make the movie reboot into a popular and long lasting franchise.
“They [Lionsgate] have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from ‘The Hunger Games’ to ‘Twilight’ and ‘Divergent,’” Saban said.
“In partnership with the Lionsgate team, we’re confident that we will capture the world of the Power Rangers and translate it into a unique and memorable motion picture phenomenon with a legacy all its own.”
The original Power Rangers series was launched by Haim Saban more than 20 years ago but the new film will cast a new group of high school kids who mix their studies with a mission to save the world.
