Full House is returning as Fuller House on Netflix in 2016
So against our better judgement that Full House reunion, which has been rumoured to be in the works, is definitely happening. Not only is it happening but it will actually be called Fuller House and will reunite a whole host of its original cast members.
John Stamos, or Uncle Jesse broke the news during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Unsurprisingly the announcement provoked a rapturous applause from a very excitable audience. The actor, who starred as leading man Jesse Katsopolis throughout the entire series until its demise in 1995, also confirmed not only would he be popping up now and again but he’ll also be producing – ka-ching!
“It’s a labor of love,” Stamos said on the show. “We’ve been literally trying for so many years to do it right, and I think we’ve finally got it perfect.”
But if you think you’re in for the same sit-com, just with a 2015 makeover then think again. It turns out we’re in for a bit of a gender flip following a pregnant D.J. Tanner, a recently widowed veterinarian. Her younger sister and aspiring musician Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin) and her childhood best pal Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber) will help D.J. raise her two boys J.D. and Max as well as the new arrival.
Discussions with original Full House cast mates Bob Saget, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Dave Coulier and Lori Loughlin are “ongoing,” according to the Netflix release.
“As big fans of the original Full House, we are thrilled to be able to introduce Fuller House’s new narrative to existing fans worldwide, who grew up on the original, as well as a new generation of global viewers that have grown up with the Tanners in syndication,” said Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for Netflix, in a statement.
Executive producers Robert L. Boyett, Thomas L. Miller and Jeff Franklin said: “The continued support of ‘Full House’ fans of all ages for the last 28 years has been astounding. It is an honor and a thrill to catch up with these beloved characters and explore their lives today. The love you saw on the show was real. The cast has remained a loving family off screen all these years. We are as excited as our fans to finally bring ‘Full House’ back to life.”
News of the Full House revival first leaked earlier this month but was brushed off by Netflix as another rumour. But, here we are just weeks later confirming the online channel will be streaming Fuller House in 2016.
