The Best British Bands of 2018

From the country that produced The Beatles, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Genesis, and The Smiths come more musical greats in 2018. Britain has repeatedly churned amazing musical performers over time. And great bands from Britain are a dime a dozen. Most perform their own material, while others make great covers and do events.

Let’s take a look at the winner and nominees for Best British group from the 2018 Brit Awards.

London Grammar

London Grammar is an indie pop band that hails from Nottingham, England. They debuted in February 2013 via their EP Metal and Dust, when they were still being able to be booked for a reasonable price through an entertainment agency, and their debut album came out in September 2013 called If You Wait. It went up the charts and was awarded a double platinum by the British Phonographic Industry. Hannah Reid (vocalist), Dan Rothman (guitarist), and Dominic Major (keyboardist) make up the band. Their second album, Truth is a Beautiful Thing, did not disappoint and went to number one on the UK Albums Charts. It came out in June 2017.

Royal Blood

This English rock duo debuted in August 2014 via their self-titled album, Royal Blood. It sold so fast that the Official Charts Company certified that it was the fastest-selling British rock debut album in 3 years. Mike Kerr plays bass guitar and provide vocals while Ben Thatcher is on drums. Not bad for a duo that worked their way to the top, performing for open-mic clubs.

Wolf Alice

Wolf Alice is an alternative rock band composed of Ellie Rowsell on vocals and guitar, Joff Oddie on vocals and guitar, Theo Ellis on bass, and Joel Amey on vocals and drums. They officially debuted with their EP single Fluffy in 2013. Their debut album Blush came out in October 2013. It was their Moaning Lisa Smile which put them on the map, climbing up to #9 of Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart in 2015 and was nominated for Best Rock Performance at the 2016 Grammys.

Gorillaz – Winner

Musician Damon Albarn created a virtual band in 1998 called the Gorillaz. There are 4 animated characters, 2-D (lead vocals, keyboard), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar), Noodle (guitar, keyboards), and Russel Hobbs (drums, percussion). Albarn mainly creates the music and the virtual universe where the Gorillaz live but he collaborates with other artists for the music. The band debuted in 2001 with their self-entitled album and went triple platinum and double platinum in Europe. Demon Days, their second album did better, going sextuple platinum in Europe and double platinum in the US. They recently bagged the 2018 Brit Award for Best British Group.
