Taylor Swift responds to grieving fans Tumblr post mourning the loss of her mother
Just weeks after revealing that her own mother had been diagnosed with cancer, Taylor Swift took time to form her 1989 world tour to write to a grieving fan. The pop megastar has earned a reputation as the most devoted artist out there when it comes to her fans, and the case of young Swifty, Kaileen, is another reason we love the Swiftster.
“I can’t spend this day with my mom because she’s in heaven,” Kaileen wrote in a post to the Shake It Off songstress on Tumblr on Sunday. “Last January, my mom passed away and a piece of my heart left with her. My mom was my best friend, the one I laughed with, the one I cried with, and the one I loved with my whole heart.”
Kaileen explained that Taylor’s music brought her out of her “sad place” and guided her through “the hardest thing in the world”. She said: “Today’s going to be another hard day, but I know with you on my side I can get through anything.”
Understandably, the message hit home for Taylor, whose own mother Audrey was diagnosed with cancer. The singer and her brother bought Aubrey a full body scan for Christmas, which discovered she was in fact suffering from the disease.
In response to Kaileen’s Tumblr post, Taylor wrote: “You’ve lived through my worst fear. I’m so sorry you can’t spend today with her. It’s not fair, and there’s no reason why you should feel okay about it.
“No one should ever expect you to feel normal today,” she continued. “I admire and respect your ability to put forth such a sunny, sweet disposition when you’ve been through something so dark and tragic so recently. I never would’ve guessed by your attitude of your posts. I never would’ve known if you hadn’t told me. Sending you a huge hug today.”
