Step Up Cast: Where Are They Now?
It’s been eight years since Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan hit the dance floor for the first Step Up movie, and now there’s a fifth film about to hit cinemas. But what are the cast of the original up to now?
Films: Step Up, Step Up 2: The Streets
With Channing Tatum having appeared in so many successful films in recent years, it’s easy to forget that one of his earlier appearances was in Step Up in 2006, which helped launch the hottie into super stardom. Tatum played bad-boy Tyler Gage, who meets ballet dancer Nora (played by his real life future wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum) while carrying out community service at Maryland School of the Arts. After Nora’s partner becomes injured, Nora asks Tyler to help her rehearse, presenting Tyler with an opportunity that he never could have imagined. Most recently Tatum appeared in the highly anticipated action comedy 22 Jump Street, proving he still pulls off a tank top like no one else.
Films: Step Up, Step Up 3D, Step Up 5: All In
Alyson Stoner has already proved herself as an accomplished hip-hop dancer at a very young age as she appeared in the music video to Missy Elliot’s iconic ‘Work It’. Step Up and Step Up 3D saw her put these talents to work once more. In Step Up Stoner plays Tyler’s foster sister Camille and in Step Up 3D we see her come of age as she starts NYU and falls in love. Since Step Up the young actress has appeared in a number of films and television series, including Camp Rock alongside the Jonas brothers. Camille is joining up with many other returning cast members to (dance) battle for victory in Step Up 5: All In.
Film: Step Up
Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) realises that he is going to have to overcome a number of obstacles if he is going to make something of his life, Director Gordon, played by Rachel Griffiths, is just one of those obstacles. Tyler has to convince Gordon, the principle of Maryland School of the Arts, that he deserves a place at the school. At the end of the film Gordon is finally won over when she sees Tyler’s performance in the senior showcase. Following Step Up, Griffiths starred in the television series Brothers and Sisters for its full five series run. Her role in the series earned Griffiths a Golden Globe nomination. Most recently Griffiths appeared in the Oscar and BAFTA nominated Saving Mr. Banks.
Films: Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 5: All In
Brianna Evigan, plays the sassy Andie in Step Up 2: The Streets. Andie is persuaded by her neighbour Tyler Gage to audition for Maryland School of the Arts to turn her life around, after getting in trouble with the police for crimes her street crew, the 410, committed. When the 410 find out that Andie has been missing rehearsals because of her association with MSA, she is thrown out of the crew. Andie instead forms a crew made up of the misfits from MSA and takes them to the streets to compete. Since The Streets Evigan has appeared in a number of horror films including S. Darko and Sorority Row. All In sees Andie’s return to the Step Up series, as she is called upon by Moose to help form a dance crew.
Adam G. Sevani
Films: Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3D, Step Up 4: Miami Heat, Step Up 5: All In
Adam G. Sevani plays Moose in the Step Up series. Moose is a nerdy lighting design student who finds that he has a talent for dance, but not in the conventional Maryland School of the Arts sense. In The Streets Moose helps Andie bring together all of the misfits from the school, like himself, to form the MSA crew. Sevani has appeared in all subsequent instalments to the series. In All In he calls on Andie for help. Sevani also recently appeared in the film LOL alongside Miley Cyrus.
Film: Step Up 2: The Streets
R & B singer Cassie Ventura, known as Cassie, appears in Step Up 2: The Streets as star pupil Sophie. Sophie initially resents Andie and the MSA crew because she has a crush on Chase, who is Andie’s love interest. However, after salsa dancing with Moose at a family barbeque, she turns her affections towards him. Cassie also contributed to the soundtrack for the film with her song Is it You. Since The Streets, Cassie has become one of the most elusive figures in the R&B world. After the great success of her first album in 2006, her second album has become highly anticipated. In 2013 she release a mixed tape titled RockaByeBaby and details of a second album began emerging.
Catch the cast in action in Step Up 5: All In in UK cinemas on 1st August!
