Star Wars: The Force Awakens Is The Most Anticipated Movie Of Next Year
Star Wars: The Force Awakens has ben named the most anticipated movie for 2015. Unsurprisingly, the seventh episode of the cherished franchise, which sees the return of original cast members, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamil and Carrie Fisher, as well as the iconic Millemium Falcon, Storm Troopers and Chewbacca, has topped an annual survey conducted by Fandango.
J.J. Abrams’ sci-fi epic, which doesn’t hit cinemas until December 18 has smashed competition from Marvel’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron as well as The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, Fifty Shades Of Grey, and Jurassic World who all followed in that order. Despite trailing behind steamfest Fifty Shades of Grey as the most popular trailer of 2015, movie go’ers are still more excited to see the world’s most popular franchise return to the big screen than Jamie Dornan getting his kit off. Are they mad?
The survey, based on 1,000 correspondents between December 22 and December 29, asked movie buffs what they would be flocking in their masses to go and see in theatres next year. Fandango chief correspondent Dave Karger seemed to be just as unfazed by the poll’s results as the rest of us, explaining: “ It’s been a decade since the last installment of the most beloved sci-fi fantasy franchise of all time, and kids of all ages are eagerly anticipating the revitalisation of the series next December”.

The survey also asked who they were specifically most excited to go and see in 2015. Robert Downey Jr. who will reprise his role as Iron Man in May, for the Avengers sequel proved to be the most popular actor in 2015, pipping co-star Chris Hemsworth to second place. As well as wielding his hammer around as Thor in the Marvel picture, Hemsworth has several major projects lined up for release in the next 12 months including Blackhat, Vacation and potential Oscar favourite In The Heart of the Sea.
Jennifer Lawrence, who would probably top the list without any films hitting cinemas in 2015 regardless, was named the most anticipated actress of 2015. Next year will see the fourth and final installment of the Hunger Games bring the franchise to a close as we bid a farewell to the most popular heroine of all time, Katniss Everdeen in Mockingjay Part 2. Scarlett Johansson, who stars as Black Widow in the Avengers as well as providing the voice of Kaa in the upcoming adaptation of The Jungle Book came in second place.
