Soccer Player Landon Donovan Being Considered For Dancing With The Stars–REPORT

Will Landon Donovan be fox-trotting across the television sets of America? He will if the producers of Dancing With The Stars get their way! Hollywood Life reports that the soccer star is being considered to join the cast of the upcoming season of the show.

Landon, who the Washington Post recently called “the greatest soccer player the United States has ever produced” was cut from the U.S. national team just weeks before the World Cup began. Landon expressed his disappointment to his fans via a Facebook message on May 22.

According to Hollywood Life, the producers of Dancing With The Stars hope to give Landon a new place to compete.

“Now that everyone is having World Cup fever and Landon was left off the team…they want him to win another trophy — the Mirror Ball trophy,” a source told the website. “They have wanted Landon forever for the show.”

Although Landon has not accepted or declined the invitation, the show insider says that it’s likely there will be a soccer star on the upcoming season.

“They are putting the full court press on getting him this time and will also reach out to anyone from the U.S. team that makes a name for themselves in the next month,” the insider said. “They are very interested in making it finally happen. What better time then now?”

Several athletes have found great success on Dancing With The Stars. Last season, Olympic figure skater Meryl Davis took first place, along with her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Other athletes that have taken home the Mirror Ball trophy over the years include football player Emmitt Smith, Olympic speed skater Apolo Ohno and gymnast Shawn Johnson.
