‘She’s The Only Reason I’m Able To Do What I Do’: Leonardo DiCaprio Pays Tribute To His Mum

The Wolf of Wall Street star bought his mother as his date to the Golden Globes

Leonardo DiCaprio has credited his mother for his success in Hollywood, insisting that without her support he wouldn’t be where he is today.

The 39-year-old has found huge success yet again with his latest movie The Wolf of Wall Street, his fifth collaboration with Martin Scorsese. But Leo reckons his mother Irmelin, who divorced his father George when the actor was just a year old, is the one to thank for his fame and fortune.

Speaking backstage at Sunday night’s Golden Globes, Leonardo told Access Hollywood: “I wouldn’t be doing any of this if it weren’t for her, both my parents. She supported this little kid who said, ‘I want to be an actor,’ at 12 years old, which is ridiculous, and she drove me to all these auditions”.

“She’s the only reason I’m able to do what I do,” the actor added. Irmelin is also supportive of her son’s personal life. When asked if she wants him to get married, Leo was adamant that “it’s irrelevant to her what I do.”

At the awards, which Irmelin attended with her son, host Tina Fey joked about Leo’s penchant for dating supermodels, telling the star-studded audience: “And now, like a supermodel’s vagina, let’s all give a warm welcome to Leonardo DiCaprio”.

Luckily Leo saw the funny side, giving a thumbs up to Fey as he took to the stage before telling reporters backstage: “That was pretty cool. Any joke from them is OK in my book.”
