Rosamund Pike Jokes ‘Gone Girl’ Sex Scenes Were “Inappropriate”

The actress jokes that she had to practice the awkward scene with co-star Neil Patrick Harris for two hours before they filmed it and she thought it was so “inappropriate” at the time. She also said it was fun to watch the editing happen in front of her eyes:

“Neil [Patrick Harris] was incredible at that. We were in hysterics in the editing room. It was very funny doing [rehearsals for our sex] scene. Neil and I were left alone on that set for like two hours to make sure we could do it. But when it’s just two of you, basically kind of f—ing on a bed, it feels so inappropriate.”

Rosamund is currently pregnant and thinks many women in the spotlight find their careers taking off  just as they begin to have kids, and she thinks it might have to do with where they are at life:

“The question is really why do so many women’s careers take off just as they have children? Is it because you are risking everything in your relationship and the risk taker in you carries through into your professional life?”

Her other theory is that women become a “huntress” when they’re a mother because they want to provide for their new family:

“You have less time to worry and overanalyze-maybe that’s it. Or the huntress instinct to provide for your family is awoken. [Either way,] with children you spend so much time re-experiencing the world as a child experiences it, and that has a nourishing effect on your imagination-in my job, imagination is key.”
