New Tomb Raider Movie Confirmed – Will Angelina Jolie Return?
Tomb Raider fans everywhere will be delighted to hear that Lara Croft is be set to return to the silver screen in the not-so-distant future – but it seems unlikely Angelina Jolie will return to the role, as the film is set to focus on the “new Lara” of the Survivor reboot.
The official Tomb Raider fansite posted a press release from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios on their Facebook earllier this evening, revealing that the “names Croft, Lara Croft. MGM and GKFilms [will] team up for the next Tomb Raider Movie”
Gary Barber, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MGM, revealed that he is very excited to be working on the new Tomb Raider film, for which development “will begin immediately”:
“Graham is one of the premier producers in this industry and I am delighted to be working with him on this exciting franchise. We look forward to developing more projects together in the future.”
Graham King, who will serve as producer and developer, also seemed similarly excited about brining the rebooted Tomb Raider franchise to the silver screen:
“I am thrilled to partner with Gary and his MGM team on rebooting this successful TOMB RAIDER film franchise. The enthusiasm over the recent game release is very encouraging and we can’t wait to bring it to the big screen.”
No casting has been announced, but it’s safe to assume that Angelina Jolie will NOT be reprising her role as Lara Croft for the film; after all, the Lara seen in Survivor is only 21 years old.
Laurie Scudder, who runs official fansite Survivor Reborn, has a theory that Gemma Arterton could have a shot!
“A lot of people say they think that the voice actress, Camilla Luddington, should have a shot, but I’m really not a fan, as she can just about do a British accent! If I had to pick, then I would say Gemma Arterton.”
Who would YOU like to see bag the part of Lara Croft in the new film?
