Martin Freeman ‘Unsure’ About Sherlock Series 4 Return Date

British actor Martin Freeman has revealed he doesn’t know when the fourth series of popular drama Sherlock will return to our TV screens, admitting he hasn’t “read any new scripts”.

The 42-year-old star, who plays Dr John Watson with co-star Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes, has also revealed he would like to carry on filming the show for as long as possible.

“That’s news to me,” said Freeman in an interview with Access Hollywood about the quick turnaround on series 4. “People have told me that today. If journalists are saying it, it must be true. I don’t know.”

According to some reports, Sherlock could be set for a return on Christmas Day later this year.

Freeman added: “I’ve not read any new scripts. So all I know is we all like the show, we all want to keep doing it for as long as we want to do it and as long as we enjoy it.”

Meanwhile, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have reportedly said the new series comes down to Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

“As Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have been saying, it just depends when everyone is free,” a show source explained, reports The Mirror. “We’re working with the writers, producers and cast to confirm availability, but it’s all down to schedules.

“Once that has been discussed, we’d love to assemble everyone again for another series.”

Adding: “There is an appetitive for it and we would obviously absolutely love the show to return, but at the moment we can’t confirm when a fourth series will air.”
