Madonna is due to overtake Elvis Presley as the solo artist with the most Number 1 albums, midweek sales figures suggest.

The star’s new record MDNA is 29,000 copies ahead in the race to the top spot this weekend, according to the Official Charts Company.

The news will be a relief to the pop icon, whose trailer single ‘Give Me All Your Luvin” stalled at No. 37 last month and sold less than 900 downloads when officially released in full last week.

Elsewhere on the album chart, Katy Perry’s Complete Confection sends her Teenage Dream album soaring back to No. 5, whilst Jessie J benefits from her appearance on The Voice as her album Who You Are ricochets 17 places to No. 6.

Further down the chart, Madonna appears again at No. 39 with The Complete Studio Albums 1983-2008.

Chris Brown is currently the front-runner on the singles charts with ‘Turn Up The Music’, potentially his first ever UK number one.
