Lupita Nyong’o Cried With Happiness Over Oscar Nomination

86th Annual Oscars Nominee Luncheon - Arrivals

Lupita Nyong’o, who is currently nominated for an Oscar thanks to her amazing performance in ’12 Years a Slave’ says she was moved to tears when she found out about her nomination. She admits that she was completely overwhelmed by the moment and still can’t believe she has been given such a high honor:

”I chose to watch it. I had a deliberation with my best friends, we were together here in LA and I chose to watch it because I thought, you know, I want to hear it from the horse’s mouth either way. I raised my hand up and I just closed my eyes and cried and said thank you, thank you, thank you. It was so surreal to hear my name in that context.”

Lupita adds that she expects the Oscars to be a final hurrah for the cast members of the film as it will likely be the last time they’re all together. She adds that she is extremely grateful for the chance to attend and get to be with those people:

”I am just so grateful and stoked to be going to the Oscars and to be going there with so many other people from this amazing picture that I got to be a part of. I mean it’s going to be the final celebration, you know.”
