Leonardo DiCaprio Describes Eating Raw Liver: “When You Bite Into it, it Bursts in Your Mouth”

Leo ate raw liver, and really wants an Oscar for it – because he won’t stop talking about it. For his part in ‘The Revenant‘, Leo roughs it in the wild and to add to the film’s authenticity, he decided to bite into a real raw bison liver, which was as you would expect it to be – horrible. He explained:

“The bad part is the membrane around it. It’s like a balloon. When you bite into it, it bursts in your mouth.”

He also had to keep a mangled looking beard and says it became like a wife to him (sounds correct coming from a commitment-phobe who must have a monthly subscription for Victoria’s Secret models). Leo commented:

“I had that beard for a year and a half. It becomes like a spouse. You sleep with it. It was like shaving off dreads.”

He believes the end result is good because the director behind the film thought about every single detail, and that’s what he says is most important when he’s signing up for a role – that the film will be given the attention it deserves:

“I just want to set the record straight. There’s been a lot said about the movie and the difficulties making it, and how meticulous Alejandro is with his vision. But to me, that’s the sh-t that should be praised. I don’t want to work with somebody who isn’t thinking of every possible aspect of what’s up on the screen. I think there’s a hunger for audiences to see something completely extreme and difficult.”
