Lady Gaga brings down the Oscars with show-stopping The Sound Of Music tribute
Lady Gaga took the house down at the 87th Academy Awards last night in Hollywood as she performed a medley of Sound of Music songs to mark the 50th anniversary of the musical’s release and star Julie Andrews was on hand to give her seal of approval.
It might have been Gaga’s first Oscar performance but when you do it like that you don’t need two and while she might be known for her unique outfits and stunts at award ceremonies this time it was all about her voice as she took the to stage at the Nokia Theatre to perform a mash-up of some of the most iconic tracks from the musical including The Sound Of Music, My Favorite Things, Edelweiss, and Climb Every Mountain.
Julie Andrews, who took on the iconic part of Maria half a century ago joined Gaga on stage straight afterwards and after giving her a well deserved hug and holding back tears said: “Thank you for that, It really warmed my heart.”
From start to end, the spectacle was Oscarworthy and was one of the highlights of the otherwise run-of-the-mill ceremony, proving that Gaga is more than just a pop artist with a flare for the extraordinary.

Pretty pleased with her performance Gaga later posted a picture of herself lying on the floor with her spectacular Alais gown thrown up in the air as she held onto a cocktail. She captioned the pic: “Me right now. What a night. Congratulations to all the nominees, performers, and winners! Let’s party! ? ”
Earlier she’d hit the red carpet in a stunning floor-length white gown from Azzedine Alaïa, which she accessorised with some massive red gloves that got a lot of love over on Twitter.
Clearly pretty pleased with her moment, she wrote on the social media site: “Me & my red gloves on the red carpet! I live for fashion like this ?? thank you so much Mr. Alaia Je vous adore!”
