Kristen Wiig Says No to Bridesmaids 2, Refuses to Put Money Before Creativity

Hollywood filmmakers seem to be addicted to making crappy follow-up sequel films as of late: ‘The Hangover 3’ was a giant flop, there is a new ‘Dumb and Dumber’ on the way and let’s not even talk about the horrible Anchorman sequel that’s currently being filmed. Yep, if something is even a little successful, filmmakers look to milk the original title for everything it’s got, even if it ruins the big hit that came before it. This was going to be the fate of ‘Bridesmaids’ but it seems as though it may not be any more, thanks to lead actress Kristen Wiig – unless they replace her that is.

Kristen has turned down the chance to star in ‘Bridesmaids 2’ because she doesn’t want to put the chance to make huge money before her own creativity! She commented on turning down the part:

“It wasn’t a hard decision, we knew during the first one, this was it. We would have made a lot of money if there was a second one, but that’s not my goal in my creative life.”

Although they could technically spin the story with a new lead character, at least Kristen’s opting out might at least slow this down or perhaps stop it altogether. Phew.
