Johnny Depp Keeps It In The Family: Daughter Lily-Rose Cast In Kevin Smith Comedy
Johnny Depp is a big family man, but with the workaholic actor shooting back to back movies this year, we’re betting he’s really missing his two children. But director Kevin Smith has come up with the perfect solution – casting Depp’s 15-year-old daughter Lily-Rose alongside her dad in his new movie.
And it’s not just Johnny’s daughter who will be starring in new horror comedy Yoga Hosers, Kevin has also cast his own teenager Harley Quinn Smith in the film.
The Hollywood dads will team up for the second installment in Smith’s Canada set True North trilogy, with Lily-Rose and Harley starring as 15-year-old yoga-obsessed girls both named Colleen.
The teens actually appear in Smith’s first movie in the series, Tusk, popping up as ‘Convenience Store Clerks 1 and 2’. Yoga Hosers though will focus a lot more on their characters as they fight an ancient evil threatening to ruin their school party.
The Colleens team up with ex cop and man-hunter Guy Lapointe to go to battle with the villain, with Depp taking on the role of Lapointe.
While Tusk and Yoga Hosers are Lily-Rose’s first movie roles, Harley has made a habit of appearing in her dad’s films, cameoing in Clerks 2 and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, when she was just a baby.
On his idea for the new movie Kevin said in a statement: “People always ask me ‘Are you ever going to make a comic book movie? This is it — but instead of yet another dude saving the day, our antiheroes are the most feared and formidable creatures man has ever encountered: two 15-year-old girls.”
While Yoga Hosers won’t hit cinemas until next year, the first film in the trilogy Tusk opens at the Toronto Film Festival next month.
That story follows Justin Long who goes missing after interviewing a maniac who tortures him physically and mentally in a bid to turn him into a walrus – we’re not making this up. Depp stars again as Lapointe, who helps Long’s pals Genesis Rodriguez and Haley Joel Osment (the kid from The Sixth Sense!) track him down.
