Johnny Depp has hit back at the critics who panned his latest film ‘The Lone Ranger’. Although the film may lose Disney up to $150 million, Depp played down just how big a flop it has turned out to be, laughing that critics expected worse than the reality. He also tries to say he is ok with the unsuccessful movie by admitting that he didn’t have any expectations in the first place:

“I don’t have any expectations, I think critics were especially upset that it didn’t really tank. I think they were hoping that it would really tank, you know?”

One critic bashed Depp’s representative performance in particular, saying that audiences have grown tired of him and his over the top costume characters:

“The flop of The Lone Ranger seems to be proof that movie audiences have grown fatigued with Johnny Depp shoehorning his trademark character actor eccentricities into big budget films.”

The 50-year-old has recently embarked on a new romance with actress Amber Heard and friends reportedly fear for a mid-life crisis. He himself admitted that the last few years, including his split from Vanessa Paradis, has made things hard:

“The last couple of years have been a bit bumpy, at times unpleasant, but that’s the nature of break-ups, I guess, especially when there are kiddies involved.”
