Jeremy Irvine: ‘I Had No Work For Two Years!’

‘War Horse’ star Jeremy Irvine gives us his advice on breaking into acting at the European premiere of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp’s vampire film ‘Dark Shadows’.

The ‘Great Expectations’ actor has admitted that before his career took off, he went without acting work for two years.

When asked for advice about how to break into the film industry, Jeremy was modest about his acting skills. He admitted to Entertainmentwise: “I don’t know if I’m the best person to ask really.

“I went to drama school straight out of school, then just started putting CV’s through letter boxes really, for about two years… and didn’t get any work for two years!”

The ‘War Horse’ star laughed: “So I don’t know if that’s the best thing to do.”

But he must have done something right, beacause the film was nominated for six Academy awards, two Golden Globes and five BAFTAs.

Jeremy puts his success down to hard work and persistence. His tip would be to do something different than everyone else, to make yourself stand out.

He went on: “I mean a lot of it is just about giving 100% at every audition you do, keeping at it and getting away from the crowd.

“I think that’s my best piece of advice, getting away from the crowd.”

Asked about future film projects, he told us: “At the moment I’m doing a film called Railway Man, that’ll take me through to the end of this year. So we’ll see what comes next.”

The film will be based on the true story of a World War II victim trying to unlock the secrets of Burma’s ‘Death Railway’.
