Is Derek Hough Planning To Waltz His Way Out Of Dancing With The Stars?
Derek Hough may well be toasting his latest success on Dancing with the Stars, but behind the scenes it would appear he’s preparing to quit the show for ballrooms new.
The 25-year-old dancer recently celebrated his fourth win on the ABC show – the American version of Strictly Come Dancing – after winning a closely fought final with country music singer Kellie Pickler.
But while the one time squeeze of Geordie singer Cheryl Cole has been a hit in the US, sources claim his winning dance on Sunday (May 21) could well be his last.

“Derek has always wanted to eventually get back to the stage or other kinds of TV projects and even films,” a show insider told the Chicago Sun Times. “I know he’s had lots of offers. This seems like the right time for him to pursue all that.”
Indeed, Derek has plenty of experience when it comes to treading the boards having previously taken to the stage in productions of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Jesus Christ Superstar, as well as a memorable role in a West End run of Footloose – in which he played Ren, the character made famous by Kevin Bacon.

“When I lived in London everything I did was pretty dramatic except for Footloose,” he recalled before his recent victory on Dancing with the Stars. “Footloose was more fun but it also had quite a dramatic end to the musical.
“I really enjoyed that serious, darkness in the acting. But then when I went on Dancing with the Stars, I was very whimsical and silly and cheesy sometimes and dorky. So I enjoy all aspects. I enjoyed the fact that we were just having fun.”
