Idris Elba Could Get A Telling Off From Marvel For Spilling Spoilers

Idris Elba hasn’t learned to keep his mouth shut, despite being part of the hugely secretive Marvel universe. In an interview recently, the Brit actor let slip some major plot spoilers about Marvel’s next big blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron, but he also managed to slam his experience with the studio as “torture”. Just stop talking Idris.

The first major mistake Idris made was the reveal of a pretty major plot point in next summer’s Age of Ultron, casually telling The Telegraph that his character Heimdall will pop up in the movie: “I’m in ‘Avengers: [Age Of Ultron’],” he said. “And I’m doing a scene with Chris Hemsworth [who plays Thor] and Tom Hiddleston [Loki].”

That’s pretty bad, considering Marvel’s super tight lockdown on plot details and character cameos (especially when it comes to major fan favourites like Loki) but it gets worse. The actor went on to admit that going from shooting his Nelson Mandela biopic to fiming his appearance in Thor: The Dark World in the same week was “torture.”

Idris isn’t a fan of that helmet…

“I’m actually falling down from a spaceship, so they had to put me in harness in this green-screen studio. And in between takes I was stuck there, fake hair stuck on to my head with glue, this f**king helmet, while they reset. And I’m thinking: ‘24 hours ago, I was Mandela’,” declares the actor of the horrible experience of appearing in a multi-million dollar making franchise. It turns out playing Mandela left a huge lasting impression on the actor, who added of his magical experience on that production: “When I walked into the set the extras called me Madiba. I was literally walking in this man’s boots. [Within] six months, the crew, we were all so in love with this film we had made. I was him. I was Mandela, practically.”

But, you weren’t actually Mandela were you Idris? Just in case he hadn’t put the final nail in the coffin, Idris finished up by telling the interviewer of his Marvel shoot: “I was like, ‘This is torture, man. I don’t want to do this.’ My agent said: ‘You have to, it’s part of the deal.’? Then there I was, in this stupid harness, with this wig and this sword and these contact lenses. It ripped my heart out.”

Playing Mandela left a lasting impression on the actor

Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon has already admitted Idris is in trouble for letting slip the spoilers, but he’s yet to speak out on the “torture” comments. The director was asked about Idris’ spoiler reveal by Vulture this week, and he sounded a tad annoyed. When asked if Idris would get a telling-off, the director said: “um, should he receive an email from me, there might be an attitude of scold. When you have a cast of 19,000 people, inevitably, once every month, you pick up [a story] and you’re like, ‘awww’ [about spoilers].”

Looks like Idris has got some making up to do…
