‘I Died The First Time’: Selena Gomez Admits Shock At Receiving Compliment From Idol Britney Spears

Selena Gomez has made no secret of her admiration for Britney Spears, and the singer has now admitted that she is using the former X Factor USA judge as a “huge inspiration” for her “transition” from a Disney star into a sexy siren.

The 20-year-old, who premiered the video for her new single ‘Come & Get It’ this week, performed her new single at the MTV Movie Awards last month and she caught the attention of Britney who praised her performance on Twitter, writing: “Wow @SelenaGomez … ‘Come & Get It’ on the #mtvmovieawards was incredible! One of my favorite songs out there right now!

“And thank you for all of the kind words about the VMA Slave performance … you’re too sweet! Means a lot to me,” Britney added.

Selena admits that she is still in shock over the compliment, saying to MTV: “It was actually the second time that she tweeted me … I died the first time. I didn’t believe it at first, but it was really sweet, because even with the inspirations through the outfits and the performances, she’s a huge inspiration when it comes to performing.”

The video for Selena’s new single, sees the songstress writhing around seductively and even getting steamy with her male lead, something which she wouldn’t have been caught doing in her Disney days. Selena says that it’s all part of her transformation into an adult and hails Britney for being able to lose the girl-next-door image.

“I think she’s one of the best that made that transition,” Sel said.

“That video [“Slave 4 U”] is so hot, it’s incredible, so I love that, and I definitely wanted to do that with my transition, but I don’t think there’s a path you have to follow. I think you just have to figure it out and hope for the best, so if it has a similarity, that’s only a compliment.”
