Frank Ocean Praised By Mum For Coming Out As Gay

Frank Ocean has received full support from his mother Katonya Breaux Riley after after he posted an emotional open letter on his Tumblr detailing his sexuality.

The singer was planning to publish the letter, which revealed that his first love was a man, in the notes for new album Channel Orange, but posted it online yesterday (July 4).

“My son is brave and honest and I am very proud of him. I wish more people in the world could be brave enough to be who they really are,” his mother tweeted yesterday, “Thank you to all who have shown love and support. My son is the most incredible human I know. Honest, true and loving. We appreciate you!”

She also retweets a loving message from Solange Knowles who applauds her son for his brave move, “I salute you, brave soul. Independence Day. @frank_ocean.”

His proud mother also retweeted a message from Russell Simmons who said that he had been “profoundly moved by the courage” of the Odd Future star.

In his post published yesterday (July 4) , Frank Ocean told fans that his first love was with a man. “In the last year or 3 I’ve screamed at my creator.”

He added: “Screamed at clouds in the sky. For some explanation. Mercy maybe. For peace of mind to rain like manna somehow.”

Following the announcement Odd Future member Tyler, the Creator later tweeted that he was “proud” of Ocean.

While singer Ed Sheeran tweeted: ”big up Frank Ocean”. Followed by pal Example: ”Respect to Frank Ocean. Just waiting for Tom Cruise to work out how to use NotePad now..”.

Other support came in the form of former Fall Out Boy member Pete Wentz, who posted: ”be brave and real like frank ocean.”

Singer Jo Jo also said: ”You just changed the game @frank_ocean. I respect you and love your work. The move you just made… So strong. Sending all positive vibes”
