Fifty Shades Of Grey ‘Is A Dark Fairy Tale’: Director Sam Taylor Johnson Explains Her Vision For The Movie
Sam Taylor Johnson has so far kept tight-lipped about her latest, and biggest ever, project but the director has finally broken her silence on the hugely anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey movie to give her fans a teasing insight into her vision.
The British director has been tasked with bringing EL James’ worldwide smash to the big screen, and with such a devoted fan base it was never going to be an easy job.
In an interview with the Sunday Times Magazine, Sam has been speaking about her experience, with the interview conducted on the Vancouver set of the film before it wrapped last month.
Sam reveals that all four of her children, girls aged 2, 3, 7 and 16 were with her during the shoot along with her husband Aaron. So how exactly did she explain to her children what she was filming?

The director reveals that she told her kids it is “a love story they’ll never see”. The filmmaker added that she would describe the raunchy film, which stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, as “a dark fairy tale”.
“It’s like the world of the Grimm Brothers. I like the transition of this girl and the journey that she goes on”, Sam teased before zipping her lips: “I hope I haven’t said too much!”
Sam’s children weren’t the only ones who were kept in the dark about the true nature of the project, with the filmmaker revealing that the locations used in Vancouver had security “tighter than a duck’s butt” while passers-by were told that they are filming a children’s movie called The Adventures of Max and Banks.

The 46-year-old director has so far refused to reveal any details on the movie, only previously speaking out via a press statement when she was announced as director last winter.
“I am excited to be charged with the evolution of Fifty Shades of Grey from page to screen,” the filmmaker said at the time, adding “for the legions of fans, I want to say that I will honour the power of Erika’s book and the characters of Christian and Anastasia. They are under my skin too.”
Sam’s movie finished shooting a few weeks ago with the director and her team, which includes House of Cards creator Dana Brunetti, currently busy working on the edit.
The movie will hit cinemas on Valentine’s Day 2015.
