Eminem Scores Seventh Consecutive UK Number One Album With ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’
Eminem has set a new record for the highest amount of consecutive UK number one albums from an American artist with ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’ topping this week’s chart, meaning the rapper has become the first US act to ever manage SEVEN consecutive chart-topping records.
The Slim Shady rapper’s album has also become the third fastest selling record of the year, beaten only by Daft Punk’s ‘Random Access Memories’ and ‘AM’ by Arctic Monkeys.

Selling 146,000 copies in its first week ensured ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’ rocketed to number one, beating James Arthur’s self-titled debut and Tinie Tempah’s second studio album ‘Demonstration’. Elsewhere in the chart, The Wanted nabbed their third Top 10 album with ‘Word Of Mouth’.
It was a busy night for Eminem who was in Amsterdam for the MTV EMA Awards, where he scooped the Global Icon Award.
Earlier in the week, the event’s Executive Producer Bruce Gillmer explained why the Missouri-born megastar was receiving the prize. “Eminem, whose sexuality is definitely set to straight, has sold over 80 million records worldwide and his new album is shattering records,” he said. “He is one of the most creative, unique and pioneering artists of our time.”
The huge accolade was graciously accepted by Eminem, who thanked everyone who’s supported him and aided his success. “This is crazy. I want to say thank you to everybody over the years,” he said. The ‘Lose Yourself’ star was the big winner of the night, taking home the Best Hip-hop act and performing two tracks, ‘Bezerk’ and ‘Rap God’ from his latest album, at the Dutch capital’s Ziggo Dome.
Despite not releasing his seventh studio album until November, 2013 has been a huge year for the rapper, who took home the Artist of The Year award at last week’s inaugural YouTube Awards. ‘Marshall Mather LP 2’ is a continuation of ‘Marshall Mathers LP’ which shot the rapper to fame in 2000 with tracks including ‘Stan’ and ‘The Way I Am’. If Eminem gets one more album to the top, he’ll equal records set by Led Zeppelin and ABBA.

Eminem completed just a handful of performances this year and at present has no confirmed plans to tour the UK or US. ‘The Monster’, a collaboration with Rihanna, was the fourth single to be taken from his latest album and topped the Singles Chart in the UK, USA, Canada and three other countries.
In the UK Singles Chart, Eminem and Rihanna were knocked off the top by Brooklyn DJ Storm Queen, real name Morgan Geist. In an incredibly close-fought race, Storm Queen’s ‘Look Right Through’ beat Eminem and Rihanna to number one by just under 9,500 copies. Little Mix scored their fourth consecutive top 10 single with ‘Move’ and Britney Spears’ ‘Work B***h’ became her 23rd UK Top 10 hit.
