Daredevil Netflix Series Casts Boardwalk Empire’s Charlie Cox

Charlie Cox is to play the masked vigilante Daredevil in a new series for Netflix.

The Boardwalk Empire actor will play the lead in the TV show, with the role previously made famous by the new Batman, Ben Affleck, in the 2003 flop film.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Marvel are also planning live-action series for Netflix, centering on Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Each of these series will then culminate into a The Defenders miniseries.

Daredevil centres around Matt Murdock, who was blinded in an accident involving a radioactive substance which helped heighten his other senses.

As well as Cox, Marvel have announced that the showrunner for the new series will be Steven S. DeKnight, who has previously been at the helm for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Drew Goddard will serve as executive producer as well as the writer for the first two episodes.

It’s thought the new series will start shooting in New York City this summer, with a scheduled start date sometime in 2015.

Here’s hoping Charlie will do a better job than Ben who admitted last year that he regretted making the 2003 Daredevil movie. While the actor credits the superhero movie as the place he first fell in love with his wife, co-star Jennifer Garner, he told Playboy magazine it was a big mistake.

“It just kills me,” he admitted. “I love that story, that character, and the fact that it got f****d up the way it did stays with me.”

Ben added that he can’t see audiences rushing out to see the couple star alongside each other on the big screen in the near future: “Well, my wife and I made Pearl Harbor and Daredevil. With our track record, I don’t know if anyone’s looking for a three-quel.”
