Could Idris Elba Be The Next James Bond?

The latest in a number of leaked emails between Sony Entertainment employees has revealed that Idris Elba is a Sony executive’s favourite to replace Daniel Craig as 007.

Amy Pascal, the co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, said in an email that Elba, 42, “should be the next Bond,” according to the Daily Beast. The British star, who has appeared in hit TV shows The Wire and Luther, has been recommended to play Bond before.

Earlier in the year, actor Jamie Foxx said that the Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom star would make the perfect Bond. “I ran into Idris and said, ‘You know you’re the mother******* Bond, right.”

Elba has previously said that he would be interested in taking the role, and it looks like the chance could finally arise in the not too distant future. Daniel Craig, who has played Bond since Casino Royale in 2006 has previously hinted at a desire to leave. “I’ve been trying to get out of this from the very moment I got into it. But they won’t let me go, and I’ve agreed to do a couple more, but let’s see how this one does, because business to business and if the s**t goes down, I’ve got a contract that somebody will happily wipe their a** with.”

Craig’s latest Bond movie, Spectre, will hit theatres on Nov. 16 2015, with the actor signed on to do one more after that, which total five films, one more than his predecessor Pierce Brosnan.

Speaking to US radio station NPR in 2011 about the prospect of playing Bond, Elba said: “If Sony decided to call me and said hey, we wanted to do [James Bond], I’d definitely consider it.”
