Costume Designer Reveals Excitement Over Ben Affleck’s Batsuit in Batman Vs. Superman

Ben Affleck has a lot to prove when he takes on the role of Batman in the upcoming superhero instalment alongside Superman but at least he can rest assured that he’ll be kitted out in nothing but the best as costume designer Michael Wilkinson has teased the wardrobe for the anticipated film admitting it’s “incredibly thrilling.”

The 37-year-old will be taking on the lead role in the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman following hot on the heels from Christian Bale’s star turn, and aside from speculation over whether Ben’s the right choice for the character, talk has been mounting as to the changes to the infamous Batsuit costume which he’ll be wearing.

Speaking on the new design, Wilkinson who is designing the film’s wardrobe, told Entertainment Weekly: “It’s incredibly thrilling… I love going to work every day. We’re so excited about creating the next Batman and Wonder Woman for the 21st century.

“It’s great to think about making these characters relevant and really resonate with audiences today. It’s such a thrill to be working with our director Zack Snyder. He’s creating such an exciting universe for this film. I think it’s something we’re all going to be really proud of.”

Wilkinson certainly has a credible history having worked on the costume design for every film directed by Snyder since 2006’s 300 including Watchmen, Sucker Punch and Man of Steel, so the Batsuit should be in safe hands although Wilkinson isn’t ready to dish specific details just yet.

“I’m not really at liberty to talk about the details of everything, but suffice to say we really respect the histories of all of these characters… Our goal is to create something relevant and exciting for today’s audiences and something that works for this thrilling cinematic universe that our director Zack Snyder is creating,” Wilkinson explained.

He continued: “You really dive into the source material. We’re looking at all of the different ways these characters have been portrayed over the ages.

“We’re looking hard into Zack’s script and working out what makes sense as far as telling the story – who these people really are and what they represent, how to make sense of them in today’s world. It’s an interesting, multilayered design challenge.

“We’ve been having some interesting camera tests and photo shoots so far. I’m not exactly sure what dates we’re going to get them released, but I’m sure Warner Bros. has it all worked out.”

Ben’s wife Jennifer Garner also gushed over the Batsuit recently, telling Entertainment Tonight that she’s had a sneak peek.

“I don’t think I could get him out of the suit. So no, I’ll probably go to set and look from afar. I’ve seen the suit… the suit is unbelievably cool. It’s a total reinvention, it looks great,” she revealed.

Batman Vs. Superman has been delayed until May 6 2016.
