Corrie Actor Charged With Child Sex Offences
Andrew Lancel, the actor who is best known for playing Corrie bad boy Frank Foster, was arrested yesterday and charged with five counts of sexually abusing a child, according to Merseyside Police.
The 42-year-old actor was granted bail by Merseyside Police, but will appear in court before Christmas.
Lancel, whose birth name is Andrew Watkinson has been charged with ‘historic’ offences, as the alleged crimes took place when he was working as trainee actor, according to The Sun.
The actor’s solicitor Stuart Nolan said he “strenuously denies the allegations”.
Nolan added: “Mr Lancel was invited by police to co-operate with an inquiry by one complainant about events that allegedly took place over 20 years ago.”
“He is confident his innocence will be established in the fullness of time.”
The soap star, also starred in ‘The Bill,’ and is the second Corrie actor to face child sex allegations this year.
Michael Le Vell, who plays mechanic Kevin Webster, was arrested, when he was accused of abusing a teenager.
Charges were eventually dropped and the actor said he went through ‘hell.’
