Cameron Diaz Backtracks, Says She Hasn’t Ruled Out Kids Yet

The actress, who is currently dating Benji Madden, recently made it quite clear that she isn’t interested in motherhood, stating:

“It’s so much more work to have children. To have lives besides your own that you are responsible for – I didn’t take that on. … A baby – that’s all day, every day for 18 years. Not having a baby might really make things easier, but that doesn’t make it an easy decision. I like protecting people, but I was never drawn to being a mother.”

Now Cam is backtracking on that statement, saying she hasn’t ruled out kids entirely as of yet and that she was only commenting on her life so far, meaning she could still want a baby in the future:

“I’ve never said I didn’t want kids… I said, ‘I haven’t had children thus far’. That sort of thing just kind of gets snipped up. The reason that I haven’t had kids so far is because I realise when you have children it takes up a large part of your life and, for whatever reason, I haven’t had children.”

She added to her argument that she is very open to the idea but isn’t pushing herself to have a child because she thinks it will happen if it’s supposed to:

“I’ve always said if I wanted to have children in my life prior to this, I would’ve had children in my life. But I’m not opposed to children. I’ve always said I’m totally open to having children in my life. I’m not the person who’s out there saying, ‘I have to have children. I’m going to make this happen’. It’s just not been what’s driven me. I believe that children come into your life if they’re meant to and I have so many children in my life.”
