Avril Lavigne set for return to music after Chad Kroeger divorce and Lyme disease diagnosis

After more than three years away, Avril Lavigne has announced she’s signed a new record deal and is excited to share the music she’s been working on.

The Canadian star, who burst onto the scene with her debut single “Complicated” in 2002, has signed with BMG Records, home to chart topping acts such as You Me At Six and Kylie Minogue along with icons of the industry including Blondie and she posted the following tweet to announce the news:

Speaking about her new deal and upcoming album, Lavigne said:

“I’ve been working really hard on the new music and it’s a reflection of my journey over the last few years. At this point in my career and my life I just wanted to put fresh energy around me and I feel like I’m having somewhat of a rebirth in my life. I’ve been faced with a lot and gone through a lot emotionally.”

Lavigne has to date achieved three UK number one albums and released her last one, which was self-titled, in 2013. Since then has gone through some turbulent times which are sure to impact the songs that feature on the upcoming album. Not only did she separate from second husband Chad Kroeger, the front-man of rock band Nickelback, she was also diagnosed with Lyme disease.

In a statement, the President of Repertoire & Marketing for BMG U.S. Zach Katz welcomed Lavigne to the label saying:

“We are excited and proud to welcome Avril to the team at BMG. She is truly a rare talent with a highly accomplished career; uncompromising in her vision, an incomparable songwriter and performer, as well as a unique and real female force. Avril has always been a leader and a voice for her fans and generation – we look forward to furthering our collaboration.”
