Famous author Judy Blume revealed on her blog that she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy. Here’s what she wrote:
“A visit to the radiologist on June 12 for a routine ultrasound (dense breast tissue) led to a core biopsy.”
She added that there is no family history of breast cancer in her family:
“Wait – me? There’s no breast cancer in my family (recent extensive genetic testing shows no genetic connection). I haven’t eaten red meat in more than 30 years. I’ve never smoked, I exercise every day, forget alcohol – it’s bad for my reflux – I’ve been the same weight my whole adult life. How is this possible? Well, guess what – it’s possible.”
Blume revealed she had to undergo a hysterectomy 17 years ago after being diagnosed with cervical cancer that was caught in time. She had been planning a vacation to Italy for five weeks just before her diagnoses and surgery, we wish her the best and it sounds like no further treatment will be necessary.
Blume has sold over 80 million copies of her books, which have been translated into 31 languages. I know I’ve read a few of her books and loved ever page of them.
