Arctic Monkeys Frontman Alex Turner Says Metallica Headlining Glastonbury ‘Does Not Add Up’

Metallica received a very mixed response when they were announced as headliners for this year’s Glastonbury festival, but it’s not only the fans who are slightly sceptical as even Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner admits that it “doesn’t add up.”

The heavy metal band will be gracing the Pyramid Stage on June 28 as headliners, joining Kasabian and Arcade Fire on the bill, however, their addition to the line-up wasn’t exactly met with a hugely positive response with many questioning whether there is a place for the metal group.

Sharing his thoughts on the bill, Arctic Monkeys rocker Turner said: “I’m not sure it adds up. I know we’d buzz off it, but fundamentally could you have Metallica in the hippy nucleus?”

Recalling his first ever Glastonbury experience, Turner added: “I did the stone circle thing. I was dressed as a crocodile because Lily Allen had a load of fancy dress costumes. I remember wrestling James from Klaxons in the mud as the sun rose.”

Fellow headliners Kasabian also weighed in on Metallica’s addition, Kasabian guitarist Tom Meighan recently told MTV News UK: “Obviously Prince was the move and I think everyone was prepared for Prince.

“I think they ran out of time for Prince. It’s quite a bold move Metallica – it’s a monster. Metallica’s huge.”

He continued: “At this point if Prince can’t do it, then there’s no bigger rock zone in the world… [Metallica], they’re clever man. They’ve been doing it a long time and there’s a reason why they are who they are. I’m sure they’ll pull something out the bag.”
