TOWIE Girls Spark Racism Row After Posing For Asian Woman Magazine

The Only Way Is Essex‘s Lucy Mecklenburgh, Sam Faiers and Jessica Wright have sparked a racism row after posing for Asian Woman magazine.

Despite the editor’s decision to use the reality TV stars because they’re “three so-very-now women into a completely new fashion style”, people from Asian and non Asian communities have expressed their dislike at seeing the girls, who were styled in beautiful saris for the shoot, on the cover.

Posting their thoughts on a Facebook page that contains the cover image of the girls, one person wrote: “Not Asian at all… it’s being fake tanned brown asian”. However people’s thoughts on the subject weren’t just confined to Facebook after one user posted on Twitter:

“Well I just couldn’t imagine the Asian community being appreciative of what #towie brings to the table”.

Admist the negativity, the girls were complimented on the “stunning” and “gorge” pictures.

Weighing in on the subject, Asian Women Editor in Chief, J Wimal said: “Rather impressed by the huge and mixed response to the new @AsianWomanMag cover and the impassioned debate that it’s sparked.“On the one hand a lot of people are appreciating our mission to bring the beauty and appeal of Asian fashion and culture to wider audience. On the other hand it’s also unveiling a mass of ignorant opinions that are at best irrelevant, at worst horrifically prejudiced.”
