Daniel Craig’s latest James Bond thriller Skyfall is set to become the highest grossing James Bond thriller in DVD and Blu-Ray sales history.
Not only is the film the most successful of the Bond franchise, it’s also the most successful British film in box office history. Now it’s time for the movie to storm the DVD charts…
Nielsen VideoScan First Alert, which tracks video sales, said on Wednesday that Skyfall debuted as the No. 1 seller on both the DVD and the separate Blu-ray Disc chart.
Although actual sales figures for DVD and Blu-ray Discs are not disclosed, Home Media magazine reported that Skyfall was massively popular, selling more than five times as many copies as its closest competitor, Sony Pictures’ Hotel Transylvania.
The animated comedy remained at No. 2 for the second consecutive week while Skyfall came out on top.
Sony, the company responsible for releasing Skyfall, does not make copies of its films available to the biggest online rental outfits like Netflix and kiosk operators like Redbox until 28 days after it is released for sale.
Because of this, Paramount’s Flight took the No. 1 spot on the rental charts for the second week in a row.
All brilliant films, these figures are well deserved!
