Fans don’t have to worry about Matt Smith quitting his role as the iconic Doctor Who anytime soon after the actor revealed that he wants to play the role forever.

Following the release of the trailer for the new series, the actor, who can be seen carrying his companion Amy Pond’s lifeless body in the latest picture from the series, told TV magazine: “I’d like to stay in the show forever. For another 50 years. I love making it.”

Gushing about the new series which will see Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill both exit the show, Matt said: “I think we’ve got one of our strongest seasons yet coming up now, I really do.”

Whilst Matt might be happy playing Doctor Who, he won’t be taking the role to the big screen after writer Steven Moffat dismissed the claims that a Doctor Who movie was in the making.

“The BBC own Doctor Who and, for the moment, I run it for them. So I can assure you definitively that was all nonsense – not the idea of making a film, we’d love to make a film, but the idea of a rebooted continuity, a different Doctor”, he told Entertainment Weekly.
