Ellie Goulding has premiered the music video for her cover of The Waterboys’ hit track ‘How Long Will I Love You,’ which will act as this year’s BBC Children In Need single.
The ‘Burn’ songstress has been performing the ballad at recent gigs, including her iTunes Festival performance in September, and it also features on her latest album ‘Halcyon Days.’ With emotional yet uplifting lyrics, the track is a great choice and well-suited to Ellie’s soft, husky vocal style.

The announcement is accompanied by the release of the track’s music video, an excerpt from the Roger Michell short film ‘Tom & Issy’ which Ellie stars in. The video sees Ellie and male co-star Dylan Edwards filming a series of practical jokes on a mobile phone, a reference to the fact the entire music video was filmed on a Nokia Lumia mobile. Interspersed with the pranks are black and white shots of the pop star performing the track in a rooftop setting.
Ellie has spoken out about her delight at being involved in the project, saying: “I’ve grown up watching BBC Children in Need so it’s fantastic that I’m doing this year’s single!”
“It is an emotional song, but in a really positive way, and I’ve been completely blown away with the positive reaction it’s had already,” she adds.
The track was created by Scottish band The Waterboys in 1990 and Ellie’s version was made as part of the soundtrack for the recent Richard Curtis film ‘About Time.’ Ellie is in good company as previous makers of the BBC Children In Need official song include chart topping acts such as JLS and Girls Aloud.
The 1997 official single was a version of Lou Reed’s ‘Perfect Day’, featuring Reed himself along with a whole host of A-List music stars including Elton John, Tom Jones and David Bowie.
Since releasing her first album in 2010, Ellie’s career has gone from strength to strength and she’s sold over 15 million singles worldwide to date. The singer will give an exclusive performance of the track during the BBC Children In Need Appeal Show which is televised live on BBC One, on November 15.
‘How Long Will I Love You’ is available for pre-order now and will be available for fans to download from November 10.
