5 Stars Who Were Bullied Because of Fame
Jealousy can be difficult to deal with, and these 5 celebrities say that some people weren’t nice to them when they became stars at a young age. Obviously resenting the celebrity in question, bullies physically beat or bullied these stars because of what they achieved. Having to go through that, these stars have opened up on their experiences, admitting that they were bullied simply because they were famous from a young age and people didn’t understand or weren’t accepting of that, even though there were others who thankfully did show their support.
Jessica Simpson
Jessica was bullied by people who didn’t believe her success: “I would walk down the school halls and hear people talking about me. Some of them would throw toilet paper at my house or throw eggs at my door. They would also write things on the sidewalk in permanent marker. They really hated me. It could have been because they thought I’d lied about getting a recording contract when I was 13 – I did actually get a deal at 13 but the album I recorded never came out because the label went under. They thought I’d made it up so made my life tricky for a while.”
Other kids gave Christian a hard time at school: “It was not a great time. I was a victim of bullying and had other kids kicking and punching me every day. It was an early lesson in how making a film can set you apart. If you don’t want to live with the consequences then don’t make the film. But that didn’t help at the time. I was confused about other people’s reactions to me, both good and bad. It can mess anyone up.”
When Vanessa made it big at a young age, people weren’t always kind to her: “It was the worst time of my life, in a way. I recorded Joe Le Taxi and then when I went back to school after summer vacation suddenly I was a celebrity and my face was on the cover of every magazine. Many people loved the song and were great fans, but there were many people who hated it and hated me. It was a torture for me. Some girls spat at me on the street. I never understood that kind of hatred.”
Daniel was picked on for his Harry Potter role: “I wasn’t the most popular kid because they wanted to give me a lot of c**p and I wasn’t willing to take it.” Daniel describes one particular incident: “I was 14, he was 19. There’d been a bit of animosity between us already and he was being horrible to a kid I knew, so I pulled him off this other bloke and he punched me in the face.”
Evan was bullied because people thought she was spoilt due to her fame: “I used to get beat up in elementary school for the same reason. They would assume I was this spoilt little brat. In fifth grade, I would get held and spit on and people would throw basketballs at me and s**t. It sucked. I never even fought back. I would be like, ‘Why? I’ve never done anything, I’m not bothering you. Teachers gave me more of a hard time than the kids did. They thought I was stuck up or, I don’t know, they were bitter teachers that were like, ‘This girl must think she’s better than everyone else’, but if anything it made me feel like more of an outcast. I just wanted to hide.”
