5 Stars Who Put Family Time Before Their Career

Reassessing their life priorities, these 5 stars all say they’ve had to put their family lives before their careers.  Knowing that they need to be there for their kids and have to work on their marriage to make it successful, these 5 celebrities have put their career on the back burner in order to make sure their family is happy. Although they still manage to find a balance and do get to work on a select number of projects, they admit they they’ve cut back on the amount they take on to make sure they don’t miss those special family moments and might consider taking on more work as their kids grow older – but for now, it’s all about family.

Drew Barrymore

Drew says she has had to slow down her career to put her young daughter Olive first: “You’ve got to choose your battles, definitely. I would miss out on my daughter (if I continued to direct films). I can’t do it… It was heartbreaking to let go, but it was a clear choice. As my daughter gets older, I’ll slowly get back into it. I’m never not going to be who I am. I’ll never abandon ship completely. Life does take different turns and it’s really wild.”

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer believes you have to pick what is most important and she believes for her, it’s family: “I think you have to know what is most important to you. And I think you have to realise that as much as you put into work, you have to put into your relationship and your children – but more so. That is how you balance it. For me, my family is the most important thing and everything else comes after that. It is hard to do everything, but you just have to. You have to make that effort. I have put so much time into my career in the past, so much time trying to get ahead and all that. But you have to do as much and then more for your home life too.”

Kristin Cavallari

Kristin won’t let her marriage fall apart so puts her family before everything else:”It’s easy to get wrapped up in your career and have that be your only focus, and I want my marriage to work and last — and family comes first. The design work is great because I can do most of it from Chicago and I have so much fun with it. I love it and it all works out.”

Matthew McConaughey

Matthew is always happy when he wraps up filming because he can return to his family which is more important to him: ”I’m really enjoying being an actor for hire. I’ve been offered to produce some things and I’ve said, ‘No thank you.’… I’m really enjoying my time getting ready for a role, my man, my characters, going to work, doing my best to nail it, finishing work and going, ‘That was a beautiful time. Thank you. See you down the road. I’m going back to my family.”

Victoria Beckham

Victoria admits that finding a balance is hard but she makes sure family comes first: “Being a working mum is hard – I think women can relate to me when I say it’s like juggling glass balls. My husband and children will always be my priority. But for me, what I do professionally doesn’t feel like a job – it’s my passion.”
