5 Stars Who Don’t Believe They’re Talented

Believing they aren’t talented and don’t even deserve the recognition they’ve had in their careers, these 5 celebrities think they’ll eventually be exposed as talentless and they don’t understand why their work is well received by critics. Modest and clearly not letting rave reviews go to their head, these celebrities are convinced they aren’t good actors at all and they don’t believe they have any special talent.  They simply don’t see what everyone else does and believes it isn’t true because there are other people who are much better than they are.

Kate Winslet

Joaquin Phoenix

The Lunchbox Fund's 2013 Fall Fete and Feedie Launch - Arrivals

Joaquin doesn’t believe he is good at acting and says he needs help during filming: “I think the trouble is that I’m not very good and I need a lot of help; I need the entire set to be working to help me. The only way I can work is to be very close to the director and the acting. At least people like Paul (director of ‘Gladiator’) make you feel that is a priority.”

Jennifer Lawrence
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" New York City Special Screening - Arrivals

Jennifer believes she’s tricked people in to thinking she’s a good actress: ”I always feel like I’m pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes about my acting. When I get good reviews I think ‘Alright – got away with another one.’ I watch my performance and I think, ‘Yeah, it’s sort of alright’ but then when I read the reviews I don’t quite get what the big deal is, I really don’t.”

Jessica Alba
40th Annual People's Choice Awards - Arrivals

Jessica thought she was a bad actress and wanted to give up at one point: “I wanted to stop acting. I hated it. I really hated it. I remember when I was dying in Silver Surfer. The director was like, ‘It looks too real. It looks too painful. Can you be prettier when you cry? Cry pretty, Jessica…’ And then it all got me thinking: Am I not good enough? Are my instincts and my emotions not good enough?… And so I just said, ‘F**k it. I don’t care about this business anymore.'”

Jonathan Rhys Meyers
Jonathan Rhys Meyers Launches Hugo "Element" Fragrance and Signs Autographs at Macy's in New York on January 30, 2009

Jonathan is waiting for people to realize that he isn’t talented: “You know why I stay out of the limelight? I always think there will be that time that people will find out that I’m crap at what I do. I think they will figure out I’m crap. Doesn’t everybody have that feeling?”
