5 Stars Speak About Missing Out on Normal Childhood
Spending the bulk of their younger years in the spotlight, these stars all feel as though they missed out on a normal childhood. Some believe it was ultimately a positive thing because they had some amazing experiences that others could only dream of, and they’re now set up to continue their career in to adulthood because they’re already established. Others felt that missing out was more negative because they didn’t get to enjoy a normal childhood or teen experiences which they feel they’ll never have now. Getting in to the business early clearly has it’s pros and cons – here is how these 5 young stars feel about skipping regular childhood experiences.
Chloe knows she hasn’t had a normal childhood but is happy with the experience she’s had instead: “People always ask me, ‘Do you think you’re missing your childhood?’ I’m like, ‘No!’ I get to live in London and Rome and Paris. I meet these incredible people and do what I love doing. What kid wouldn’t want to do that? Yeah, I know I’m just a kid but I can play a character. Like, on the red carpet that’s actress Chloe wearing great clothes. Actress Chloe is a lot more well-spoken than regular Chloe, who I am when I’m with my family. And yes, it’s a little weird but I’m trying to manoeuvre it gracefully with the help of my family.”
During her ‘Harry Potter’ years, Emma felt she missed out on some aspects of the typical teenage experience such as experimenting with her hair: “One of the things about being a teenager is you just do what you want, dye your hair funny colours, experiment and do crazy things. I’m not able to do that in quite the same way that my friends are.”
Hilary believes that while she missed out, she wouldn’t change a thing: “I do feel like I’ve missed out on some of that typical growing-up stuff, but then I can do a lot of things that most people my age never could. And right now my friends are worrying about what to do in the future, while I’ve already got the career of my dreams.”
Reality star Kendall says she’s grateful for what she has but would also like to have some time off from the spotlight: ”The show brought us everything we have, and I realise that, but sometimes I just want to be left alone and be a normal kid for like five minutes. We appreciate everything that we have. But we don’t remember what it’s like to be normal kids who aren’t harassed by the paparazzi. I hate that.”
‘Harry Potter’ actor Tom Felton believes he did miss out because of his role in the films: “I feel a real mixture of emotions. There is a little bit of sadness, but at the same time there is excitement. For the past decade we haven’t had much freedom to do other projects. I certainly haven’t had much freedom to keep my own hair colour, or lay in the sun, or do anything remotely dangerous like skiing. One thing that people keep on saying to me is that the wealth and the fame must have made up for missing out on my childhood. But the idea of money – putting a price on your childhood – is ridiculous. You will never get those years back and you can’t put a price on them.”
