5 Stars Open Up on the Difficulties of Fame

Being famous might look easy: all of the glamorous parties, big pay cheques and plenty of recognition, but there are some negative aspects to fame. These 5 stars have candidly spoken on their own difficulties with being in the spotlight. Some struggle with all of the constant attention and the pressure to be perfect which they feel is on them all of the time. Others hit the big time at a young age and admit that they were frightened by the adult world that they were suddenly sucked in to. Others just weren’t expecting to make it after all of their failed auditions and now have been quietly shocked by their own fame and everything that comes with it. One of these celebrities believes that the whole industry is overwhelming and it takes a while to adjust to being in such an intense atmosphere.

Christina Hendricks

Christina found it so hard to rise to the top that it was all such a big struggle for her: ”I’ve been to a million auditions and have been rejected a million times, so it’s something that I’m used to. You’re either right for it or you’re not right for it. You could leave thinking you had the best audition in the world and they say you don’t look like the person I imagined. It has nothing to do with your talent. Someone could have just broken up with a redhead the other day and not want to hire me.”

Daniel Craig

Daniel says that fame confused him from the beginning: ”It threw me for a loop, quite honestly. It really f**king shook me up and made me look at the world in a different way. It changed my life. It just confused the hell out of me. Fame and Fortune, for want of a better expression, is f**king scary. My background is not well off. And there aren’t many people you can ask for advice about dealing with that.”

Emma Watson

Emma says that fame just makes growing up harder: ”It just intensifies the whole thing. I think going through adolescence in the spotlight probably wasn’t the easiest, but when I feel insecure I just focus on the work, on what I’m doing. I try not to get too caught up in it. Because a lot of photographs are taken, you’re constantly evaluating your appearance, which most people don’t really have to do. It can be tough. It’s just part of the job. I’ve never really known anything else. It all happened when I was so young.”

Hailee Steinfeld

Hailee found it hard to be put in to an adult world as such a young age: “For teenagers – and I mainly speak for myself on this one – you’re put into this adult world and it’s scary as anything can happen at any moment, but I’m just thankful my parents have raised me the way they have. I feel really confident just being me. I think a lot of the young actresses out there are the same – they’ve got really good backgrounds and families. We’re just doing what we love and we’re only doing it for that reason.”

Selena Gomez

Selena says that she is often overwhelmed by it all: “Obviously it’s an overwhelming business, especially for those of us who have been in it since we were very young and have grown up with it. But you just have to make sure you have good friends around you and your family there to support you. It’s important to have that support system around you to help you cope.”
