5 Seconds Of Summer Fans Are Gutted Over MTV Video Music Award Snub: ‘I’m So Sorry We Disappointed You’

5 Seconds of Summer surely had this year’s Artist To Watch Award in the bag at last night’s MTV VMA Awards, right? With a number one US album and a fan base dedicated enough to rival even a Directioner there was no way the boys weren’t going to pick up their first moon man.

Well, until to the surprise of EVERYONE they didn’t as girl band Fifth Harmony managed to successfully rally their beloved Harmonizers in an almighty campaign for the coveted gong and it’s safe to say they had a bit of a meltdown upon hearing the news.

Fans voted in their thousands for their favourite up and coming artist with 5SOS, Fifth Harmony, Sam Smith, Charlie XCX and Schoolboy Q all vying it out for the top prize.

After a show-stopping pre-show performance of their new single Bo$$ the ladies couldn’t contain their excitement tanking their legion of loyal fans and mentor Simon Cowell who snapped the girls up following their formation on 2013’s X Factor USA.

“I’m literally up here shaking,” Ally cried before Camila rememebered to thank the thousands of fans who put them there: “And thank you so much to our fans, the Harmonizers,” she said. “You guys go above and beyond for us. You guys changed our lives!”

But while fans of the all female five-piece were celebrating in their millions, Twitter was flooded with some devastated 5SOS supporters who just couldn’t believe last night’s shocking outcome.

“Who else is in a depressing mood because @5SOS didn’t win artist to watch when they realized they didn’t win I cried,” sobbed a broken-hearted fan on the social media site, which was just one of hundreds of tweets sharing the same sentiment while many just blamed themselves.

“@Hemmoftcxlum posted: “Their faces make me wanna cry im so sorry guys we didnt win this for you i feel so bad (sic)” with 5sosfoll0wxhelp sharing the guilt, writing: “I’m so sorry we disappointed you 5sos”.

But the guys didn’t walk away empty handed as they still went home with last night’s Best Lyric award and they brought the house down with their performance of new single ‘Amnesia’.
