Some believe that it can work if you are willing to put in the effort to keep the spark alive. Others advise not to try a long distance relationship or admit they’ve given it a go and that it can be extremely difficult to maintain. Each with their own experience on the topic, these stars have opened up on if they think long distance relationships are really worth the effort.
Jordin says it’s all about making time to be together: ”Well we have a long distance relationship so we really have to make the time we have together count … Communication is really key like, ‘I really didn’t like it when you said that,’ or, ‘Maybe we can try this and go to this movie at the same time?’ I would definitely say compromise and communication for sure.”
Alexandra admits that it’s very difficult: ”We’re still dating exclusively but long-distance love is very hard. He’s in America and I haven’t seen him for a couple of months because we’re both so busy. It’s not easy at all, but the more you dwell on it the more it gets to you. Skype is brilliant though. Having a long-distance relationship doesn’t make you feel like you have someone who’s there. They can’t give you a cuddle if you want one. I wouldn’t rely on him for support when I’ve got my team here. If I need to have a cry, I know they’re there for me. Sometimes my head is all over the place.”
Amanda doesn’t advise anyone to get in to a long distance relationship: “Never date somebody who doesn’t live in your country. It’s heartbreaking and confusing and makes you go a little bit nuts.”
Nicole believes long distance relationships have to have two people who are willing to work together: ”It is tough. It’s challenging and it makes things interesting, but it works. You have to fight for it.”
Vanessa finds long distance love so hard but thinks there are ways to make it work: “Long-distance relationships are hard no matter what. When you have face-to-face time, it’s just different. Having an iPhone helped but it just wasn’t the same.”
