5 Celebrities Who Are Science Nerds

Science nerds are cool – yes it’s true – at least these 5 celebrities are proof that loving science doesn’t mean you live in a dark bedroom surrounded by vintage Batman posters and a wardrobe of cosplay costumes. These 5 celebrities are all fascinated by science and love reading and learning about the topic. From creating their own experiments to encouraging others to become more scientific, these celebrities are huge science nerds at heart and proud too!

Kellan Lutz

86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Kellan wanted to use science to help him rob a bank as a kid: “As a kid I wanted to rob a bank – I still want to… It was more to get away with it… I was like, ‘Why don’t the guys getting chased by the cops have a trapdoor under their car; you should plan ahead. My idea was… I’d have a getaway vehicle and I’d go down an alleyway… so there’s only one lead vehicle chasing me… I’d have, like, a Pokemon ball… and I’m obsessed with (engineer and physicist Nikola) Tesla… so there’s Tesla coils in there and I’ve a chemical compound and the whole idea is you push the Pokemon ball… throw it under your trapdoor; it’s full electricity and once it hits the lead vehicle, it, like, hits the metal (and) it just disrupts the battery and fries it. When you stop the lead vehicle, it stops all the other cars.”

Natalie Portman
"Thor: The Dark World" New York City Premiere - Arrivals

Natalie once worked with Marvel on a stem contest for girls and believes more women need to work in science: “It’s really cool that Marvel — the comic company behind the Thor series — is working on what they call STEM: science, technology, engineering and math.  Women are underrepresented in those fields so they are trying to encourage girls to study them more, because obviously there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be.”

Cameron Diaz
Cameron Diaz's "The Body Book" Book Signing at Barnes & Noble in Los Angeles on January 16, 2014

Cameron says she loves understanding science: ”I’m a science nerd. I like to know why things work the way they do. I thought that the body was probably the most important thing to understand how it works since we all have one, and we don’t really know that much about it.”

Amerie
2009 MTV Video Music Awards - Arrivals

Amerie loves computer games and science magazines: “I am addicted to The Sims. I live out a virtual life online. I think it’s seriously cool, but I guess it’s kind of dorky. I’ve got Kelly Rowland into it too, and now we hook up in the game. Beyonce tried to join us, but she wasn’t into it. Also I love to read science magazines. It’s not very R+B I know.”

Jennifer Aniston
"We're the Millers" UK Premiere - Arrivals

Jennifer likes to treat trying new skin products like science experiments: “I just love that kind of stuff. It’s like an experiment. I love science experiments! I was watching the Oprah Winfrey Network the other day, and of course I luck into an infomercial, and it’s this thing called Timeless Secret. And I find myself sitting there for an hour, riveted by these little testimonials of this eye cream.”
