5 Celebrities Speak on Facing Their Fears
Not letting their fears get the best of them, these 5 celebrities have all put themselves in situations that they’ve been afraid of in order to conquer them. Facing up to it, they discovered a way to get through the hardship and realized that there was nothing to be afraid of too. While many people avoid what makes them uncomfortable or anxious, these stars decided to take an active approach to getting over their personal fear. Speaking on how they did it, these 5 celebrities have all opened up on how they were able to face what terrifies them.
Kristen Stewart
Kristen had to face her fear of horses for her role as Snow White: “I got to jump off cliffs and ride horses, and that terrifies me. I was really, really not happy about having to do all that (horseback riding). I don’t like that – I hate that. I hate ’em. I fell off a horse once and hurt myself really badly. I broke and dislocated my elbow when I was, like, nine.”
Dominic freaked out when he had to climb a tree for ‘Dom’s Wild Things’ and says it was very hard for him because of a fear of heights: “(Producer) Paul (Kilback) told me that I was going to have to go about 120 feet into a tree to get close to these giant honey bees because they live in the highest trees in the jungle. So the day before we went up there, we did a little minor test run, which we filmed, of me being hoisted 30 feet into a tree, and I am just terrified, like white knuckles; I was sweating like a cat stuck to a tree, trying to grab it with my feet and with my knees and stuff like that. I couldn’t relax. I’d go up 30 feet, and Paul was like, ‘That’s fine. That’s as high as we are going to go. Just relax.'”
He continued: “I remember looking down and saying, ‘I can’t relax. I can’t.’ I was, like, gripping the tree. I came down and realised, ‘Well, I’m going to have to travel at least three or four times that tomorrow. Paul and I sat down that night, and he said, ‘Do you have any requests?’ And I said, ‘Let’s do it first thing. Let’s have it be the first thing that we do. We’ll grab a quick breakfast, harness me up, and I’ll go up into the tree.’ I said, ‘The only other thing that I’d like would be a bottle of whiskey!’ So we got those two things, and I was ready to go. Paul is an experienced climber so he kind of talked me through it as best he could.”
Cheryl was terrified by a plane incident but managed to get through it: ”We were stuck in the plane and just sitting on the runway and a bright massive flash of light hit outside the aircraft. I said to my friend, ‘That’s lightning’ — then it just didn’t stop. I was so scared that I thought, ‘This is it. I’ve got an album to promote and I’ve got so much yet to do! We had to stay put in the aircraft on the runway. They couldn’t even take us back to the terminal. When we finally took off about an hour later I was terrified we’d be hit by lightning in the air. But I remembered I’d climbed Kilimanjaro, so took a bit of strength from that.”
Naomi never wanted to appear on tv but conquered her fear as a judge on ‘The Face’: ”I always said I don’t want to do television because I was afraid of it, to be honest, and what the fear was, [was] that I had tried to live as privately as I [could] so I didn’t feel it would be in my comfort zone to have a camera following me around. But this was a whole different thing. It’s not that way at all. It’s me getting to share 26 years of what I have been blessed to learn and know and find out about and achieve, with girls who want to be in our business and that’s far more fun.”
Miley fears being alone but has face it now that she is single: “I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I had, this entire year. I don’t ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them, you can’t be yourself.”
